- Visitors coming to Cape Town for kitesurfing can look forward to great downwinders along Table Bay. Later the downwind shuttle will bring you back to where you started, or to a sunset beer into the next beach bar. As the wind in Sunset Beach can quickly become too strong and gusty, kiters prefer to gather at Dolphin Beach, Kite Beach or Big Bay, the best-known spots. But also on the False Bay side you can go for a kiting session: in Strand or Muizenberg you can kite in warmer waters.
Extremely popular and a must for any kiter is Langebaan with its shallow lagoon. Here you can show your tricks directly in front of the beach bar and afterwards start the evening with a juicy burger.
Kitesurfing beginner’s courses are available in any surf shop these days. There are lots of specials and certainly no shortage of space for everyone. Just a word of warning: When going into the water with a kite for the first time, make sure to avoid the big waves at Kite Beach.
